Sabah A A Jassim

President & CEO

Dr. Sabah A A Jassim has research and academic contributions that span 30 years. Sabah was awarded his Master of Philosophy (M. Phil) and Ph.D. degrees from Nottingham University and Loughborough University respectively, both in the UK. He worked as a faculty research fellow at Nottingham University (1988-1995), UK and an adjunct professor at University of Guelph (1995-1997) and University of Windsor (2013-2019) in Canada, respectively, focussing on phage biotechnologies and environmental industries, respectively. He was also a visiting professor at University Putra Malaysia (2007-2010) supervising a research post-doctoral team working on phage design technology. Sabah has also worked extensively in the private sector focussing on practical applications for his scientific research, especially relating to biota as well as bacteriophages and related topics, and camelid biotechnology.

Dr. Jassim has unprecedented innovation compositions and methods using camel antibodies (IgG) for the treatment of cancer, and viral and bacterial diseases, in which he has a world international patent 2010. On March 27, 2011, Sabah was listed 13th of Power 500 the World’s Most Influential Arabs/Middle East by Arabian Business Journal regarding his research and discovery in camelid biotechnology (https://arabic.arabianbusiness.com/lists/list-184236). Furthermore, in 2013, Sabah has developed CamOleum from his international patented discovery of camel oils and the methods used in developing unprecedented treatment for skin conditions, in which he transferred from the laboratory bench to the marketplace (https://camoleum.com).

He was president for Arab Biotechnology Network (2008-2011) and the winner of several best research awards. He made trend-setting achievements to the state-of-the-art bacteriophage breeding and design technology to produce large scale highly lytic phages for biocontrol systems. These include using phages for rapid bacterial detection, rapid drug susceptibility testing, biocontrol, alternative therapy, molecular detection and characterization of bacterial pathogens, control of pathogens in environmental industries, microbial bioluminescence, deletion of bacterial biofilm, bacterial stress response, controlling harmful algal blooms and novel methods in wastewater treatment. His more recent innovative phage programming technology represents a model for smart phages to gain a high-speed infection against their counterpart bacterial pathogens, which can play a significant role in decreasing bacterial pathogenic risk, preventing loss of life and reducing the use of antibiotics in animal agriculture industries. Dr. Jassim holds 42 international patents in several biological sciences including camelid IgG, CamOleum skin conditions and phage biotechnologies. Four of these technologies have been transferred to industrial practice. He has published extensively in prestigious journals and conferences, including peer-reviewed research and review articles, as well as books and book chapters, and is a consistent leader in R & D to enhance bacteriophages infectious activity to their target bacteria.

Sabah has devoted much of his research to using phages and camelid IgG as a novel, environmentally friendly biocontrol, particularly in agricultural applications from farm-to-fork.
